APTA Physical Therapy Association Member Benefits

In the United States, the organization called the APTA physical therapy association is devoted to the professional and career field of physical therapy. Formally called the American Physical Therapy Association, APTA provides plenty of advantages for members. Speaking of members, there are over 72,000 of them across the country. This association works hard to cultivate innovations and advancements in the areas of physical therapy education, research and practice.

If you would like to become a member of APTA there are some requirements to meet first. You must be either a licensed physical therapist (PT) or physical therapist assistant (PTA.) It is necessary for your license to be current, however there are student applicant programs for those currently studying for licensure. Students must be either accepted to or enrolled in an accredited educational program granted status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. There is also a post-professional student membership plan for those in continuing education programs.

The benefits for members are substantial. You get endorsed products, consulting services, listed in the member directory and more. The APTA member directory is where many patients turn to find qualified physical therapists. It is also where employers and agencies often look to find qualified physical therapists and physical therapist assistants. There is also a mentoring program and a speakers bureau which may prove useful. The Book and Literature Review Service is a perk many therapists enjoy because it keeps them up to date on vital information in their career field. APTA also has a Women's Initiative section as 70% of members are female. This helps women with key areas like pay equality, domestic violence, reentering the workforce after raising a family and more.

For patients of physical therapy, the APTA physical therapy association can be helpful for finding the right therapist or clinic. Also, patients can learn a great deal about physical therapy on the APTA site. On their site not only will you find plenty of information about membership in their organization, you will also find the basics of physical therapy like information about common problems with the knees, hands, wrists, back and how to solve such problems with exercise and other methods. At the least patients will feel better about receiving physical therapy once they understand more about how it works.
